- Your money really will go far in this lively river-side town. You can’t go far wrong wherever you choose to stay, as it’s all within walking distance. For the lazy amongst us, a tuk tuk will only set you back $1 a journey if you’re willing to barter. For the cheapest digs head to the old market area, where a bed can be found for as little as $7 for a double. You’ll be hard pushed to find any good old fashioned dorms in Siem Reap, simply because the prices start so low! However, Jasmine Lodge is one of the best options for the lone backpacker, as they have a great communal area and prices start from just $1 for a hut dorm room! Or upgrade to the tiny amount of$6 for a fan room. You’ll be sure to get a friendly greeting from the owner, Mr Kunn and his wonderful family along with some tasty traditional Khmer food.

Won’t break the bank: 500 – 800 baht ($15-$25)
- If you can afford to spend a few extra dollars, you’ll really notice how far it goes in this value-for-money town! Spending $13 will get you a double room, with WIFI and a fantastic roof terrace with views of Angkor Wat, at the Cashew Nut Guesthouse! Located just 400m from the old market area and run by friendly Aussie Alan, the Cashew Nut are happy to arrange all your travel needs and have a team of experienced tuk tuk drivers on hand.

This gem of an English-run guesthouse has a variety of rooms to suit all budgets, and has all the home comforts you could wish for, including pie and chips! If you plan ahead, you can get yourself a bargain room on the top floor of Rosy Guesthouse, with a shared bathroom for as little as $8. Or treat yourselves to air conditioning and a TV, then take advantage of their extensive (free!) DVD selection and sip on a pint of Anchor beer.

Splurge: 1,000 baht ($35) & above:
- For the flashpackers amongst us, head to the hotel lined Old French Quarter. Here you will find Ancient Angkor Hotel, a grand affair with an impressive swimming pool and a Sky Bar providing delicious cocktails. A double room will set you back anywhere from $29 upwards, but this is luxury at its best! The staff are attentive and the beds are comfy, who could ask for more after a day trekking around the temples of Angkor Wat.
